Can't seem to change my voice mail greeting

I am trying to change my voice mail message. The menu options to do this SOUND straightforward, but they don't actually do what they say they do! What happens is:

  • I call my voice mail and choose the option to manage my greetings.
  • From the menu that gives me, I choose to 4 to delete my existing greeting.
  • It gives me a warning that this will delete my current greeting unless I record a new one, and says to press 2 to do so. Since this is exactly what I want to do, I press 2.
  • I record my new greeting.
  • It says I'm listening to my greetings (which I'm not, that was a completely different option I could have chosen earlier!), and offers me no choices except to listen to my current greeting or go back to the previous menu. There is nothing that acknowledges in any way that I just recorded a new greeting, or otherwise indicates any awareness of the context.
  • If I listen to my greeting, it's still the old one, not the new one I just recorded!!!
  • When I listen to the end, there is no option to switch to the new greeting I just recorded, or anything like that.
  • I throw the phone across the room in frustration.
This should be totally simple and the menu options would lead you to think it is, but they simply don't seem to do what they claim to do. What are the real instructions for doing this?

There is a print copy for prepaid and post-paid accounts. Not sure of the accuracy, or completeness, though!

Here is Telus' which may or may not be the same back end, and the same commands.

The commands on the Koodo one were out of date (why I said "were", I'll get to momentarily). The Telus one is at least recognizable as what happens when I try to change it, but it doesn't acknowledge the possibility of it going wrong, as is happening to me.

Curiously, the "prepaid" link you provided, which definitely DID lead to what you said at the time you posted it, no longer works. It now leads to a general list of calling features. Maybe someone at Koodo noticed the out of date info, possibly because of this conversation, and is in the process of correcting it as I type this?

But in any case, from my perspective that's the less important of two problems here, and it does little or nothing to solve the main one.

This is weird. The link in the e-mail notification I got works, but try putting it on this page and it goes to the wrong place.

But at any rate, no, that's the same out-of-date instructions I referred to above. They're nothing like the actual menu options I get. And even if they were accurate, they assume the process will work the way it says it works and my whole issue is that no, it doesn't, at least not for me.

If all else fails the app it mentions might provide me with an alternative.

By the way, I do appreciate the time you're taking on this even if I seem to be poo-poohing all your specific suggestions.

Hey Jeff, sounds odd! I checked and no known issues have been reported with the voicemail system.  Do you have any saved voicemails? What we can do on our end is reset your voicemail and it should fix the glitch that you're encountering (but it will erase everything that is saved). You'll need to call us in to do that; however, at the same time you can speak with our technical support team (option 6 - 2)  before resetting your voicemail to troubleshoot further. Thank you :)
