Hello everyone I'm new to this but I can't pay my bill because I am unemployed at the moment. As I've been good at paying off my bill every other pass months. My bill has to be paid by January 4th or late charges will apply but I wouldnt even be able to pay that either. Is there a way I can end my contract and just pay off the amount of my tab? I'm stuck in this situation and it's hard for me because my boyfriend is currently in jail right now and he usually calls me 3 times a day and I haven't talked to him in the last two weeks since my phone got cut off which breaks my heart. My parents won't help me out and lend me money and I can't get a loan because I already owe back a loan right now. Is there any advice anyone can give me on my situation?

I'm sorry to hear you're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

You can pay off the Tab at any time by calling in to cancel your service, but to keep your service running, you'll need to continue paying your monthly plan. I wouldn't recommend it if you need to keep a phone line open/available.

After this I would either change your plan to something cheaper or just go on prepaid - that way whenever you get extra money, you can just add funds and have a phone to use.

This is more personal advice rather than cellular, but have you applied for unemployment insurance? They helped me out when I was let go with no explanation from one of my old employers. In the mean time you'll need to find a job quickly. Just start applying wherever you can and keep your mind open (don't not apply to places you don't think you can do it).

If you drive, are in a fairly populated area, and your car qualifies, you can also try becoming an Uber driver. Also helped me get back on my feet when I was in between jobs.

Good luck.

Once you cancel your plan, your phone will no longer connect to the cellular network, but iMessage will still work when you are connected to Wi-Fi.

Yes but my balance is $238 would I have to pay that if I cancel my plan and pay off the tab?

Yes, you are obligated to pay the debts you have incurred.  You might contact Koodo about a debt repayment plan with a longer term.

I guess I'm late, but Koodo also offers the option of putting the plan on a seasonal hold, meaning $15 per month plus tab. That would have minimal impact if you're already on a cheap talk & text plan, but could do some serious savings if you're used to using a $60+ monthly plan. This is a favourable deal if your tab balance is high and you're not ready to pay it, plus you get to keep your number. If your tab balance is low, then cancelling / porting number to a voip app is by far the cheapest option.

I don't know the entire situation, but with a tab balance of $238, if OP is not able to continue or struggling paying their monthly bill, it'll be even harder to fork out the tab balance.
