Can't buy phone outright online if on existing tab?

I have a phone on a medium tab, but want the Essential phone as well.  I tried to buy it outright from Koodo's site rather than putting it on a tab (as that wouldn't work), but I get an error saying I'm not eligible to upgrade.  Facebook/twitter messages to Koodo go unanswered so I thought I'd try here before calling them.

Is it not possible to buy a phone at full price from Koodo if I have an existing tab?  That seems crazy to me.

It basically forces me to sign up for a new plan, get the phone on a tab and then cancel the next day.  I didn't want to go down that road, but it seems like I have no choice

Pay your current tab and then order new phone on existing line.

You can reverse it, pay pff the tab on your current phone and get the new one on a tab. But yeah what you want is not possible....

My current tab isn't 90 days in yet, so I can't pay it off.
Seems odd Koodo won't let buy a new phone at full price, but I guess that's just the way it is.

I'll sign up for a new plan and cancel the next day.

Have you tried this in store if one is nearby? It's been a while, but I think that I've purchased a phone outright from Koodo without touching the tab, but this was done in store.

@Shane:

You need a plan going with the phone (even you buy it at retail price). Koodo didn't sell phone alone. If you want it outright, you could also check with Telus/bestbuy, they have the white color also.
