It's December 1, 2017 and as per the CRTC, all phones sold in Canada must be unlocked without charge by the carrier. Already own a phone? It too must be unlocked without charge as well.

Have you requested your phone be unlocked by Koodo yet? What's the procedure you had to go through to get your phone unlocked? How was your experience?

Well, Koodo has been unlocking phones for free for more than three weeks now. If you left your unlocking to today, Koodo is going to receive "higher than expected call volumes" as if they ever receive "expected call volumes." So just go get your phone unlocked by TELUS instead. Public Mobile might also be quicker than Koodo.

Oh really? Hmmm...I asked them on their Facebook page a while back about unlocking my phone rather than having to wait until December 1st. They responded that they would not and that they would be following the CRTC decision to unlock them on the 1st. So yeah, now they are going to get slammed and so much resources are going to be taken up just to unlock phones. So dumb.

What needs to be in place is an automated system, but hey, what do we know? lol

They were keen on the December 1st date for awhile but on November 9th they decided to start waiving the fee.

Don't think an email was sent out, or I didn't receive one either. If that was sarcasm then ignore my response lol.

So to sum up, just contact koodo and they will unlock the device.

It was mentioned that Telus would also unlock your phone. Is this for Koodo customers? If so, can one go to a Telus store?
Thanks

Do you need a Telus account for that?

Just my IMEI #, although I had to give them permission first to access my account.  They then gave me a free unlock code.
