Can I get my iPhone repaired through the AppleCare plan without the original receipt?

They haven't asked for a receipt when I've gone for warranty work at the Apple Store since they have the number of the device recorded. It was an iPad bought from the Apple Store but I think it would be the same for any device. You could always call first if it's a bit of a trip.
So I'm petty sure all AppleCare cases are handled by Apple rather than Koodo.

Yes. They can figure out if the phone is under warranty based on the serial number...

There shouldn't be a problem as the apple care will be on record at the apple store.
I have also found that a lot of times apple will simply replace your phone.
