Is it phone that works with SIM or without?, If you're already with Koodo with phone that uses SIM just take out your SIM and put it on the phone your friend gave you, if not yet Koodo customer buy new SIM from Koodo store that will activate it for you, an account will be created in your name upon credit check.

Also, check to see if the phone is compatible with the Koodo network. That is, if it isn't a Koodo branded phone

Hi, in addition to what Mat badger has shared with you. You may click this link
To verify if your phone will work in the Koodo network or not. As well remember that you need to have your cellphone unlocked if it was previously attached to a different service provider. The way that you can identify if your cellphone is locked or unlocked is by inserting a SIM card from another service provider, and the phone will automatically request a "code" which is what you need to have your cellphone unlocked. There are a variety of websites that can provide you with that "Code" and it may be less expensive than doing it directly with the old carrier/service provider. I will recommend you to verify thru the link listed above if the phone is compatible with Koodo before unlocking it, hope this help:)!
