can a sim card deactivate itself

it shouldn't, but it can happen. Does it show unregisterd sim, no service or emergency calls only?
Have you taken the sim card out and rebooted the phone? Make sure that you do not have "Use 2G network" checked off in your settings.

Hi Charlie,

If in rare circumstance, the sim card is defected, it could definitely interfere with your signal and services. But in regular occassion, it does not. In fact, there are many customers who have a 4 year old sim card with no issues.

Hey Charlie, to add on to what's been said, if you use a new sim card to replace an old one, the old one will become deactive within 90 days.
