Can my Telus sim card be ported over with my phone number?

Today my contract with Telus expires and I would like to switch to Koodo. I have been informed not to cancel my plan with Telus prior to going to Koodo so Koodo will be able to transfer my number to their service. I was wondering, since Koodo and Telus are affiliated, can my Telus sim card also be transferred to Koodo?

I currently own a Nexus 5 and when I go into my mobile network settings it gives the option for provider and I already have the option to select Koodo even though I am on the Telus network.

Any ideas if this is possible? Thanks.

You can post your number and bring your phone, but you will need a Koodo SIM card. Go to koodo shop and they will look after everything .

Nope, it has to be a Koodo SIM because while the network is technically the same, the provisioning codes, account #s, etc. are different.

Thanks Jonathan, much appreciated, look forward to moving over and using Koodo. I hear a lot of positive feedback.
