Hi there, I’m currently a high school student and I am interested in buying a phone on contract. (iPhone 8+ with $730 down and $15 on tab) The only problem is is that I don’t have any credit, but I do have a steady income especially for someone my age. Is there anyway to get the phone?

hi Rose,

You need to pass their requirement here: https://www.koodomobile.com/help/credit-check-requirements
If you don't pass, there isn't much anyone could do to help.

Are you the age of majority in your province? If so then you can try and see if you can pass a credit check with Koodo. If you don't pass, your only other option would be to get one outright or have someone else sign up an account for you.

I’m not the age of majority unfortunately. What if I put a security deposit on top of the $730?

If you aren't the age of majority you can't get a postpaid plan with any carrier in Canada.
The most you can get is a prepaid plan or have someone else sign up for you.

With Public wireless by Telus you pay into a SIM card monthly using a phone you already have! Buy a phone with your $700+ and get started with your SIM card. Good luck

If I were to get someone to sign for me, would they have to go through a credit check?

Yes. The account and credit check would be under their name.

Why not look into buying an iPhone 8 used or outright then?
