If you want to switch to prepaid:
You can go to a Koodo store and get a prepaid SIM and activate it. Prepaid SIM cost you $20 but it gives you $20 credit.
Then you can port/transfer your number if you want. If you did this, then your monthly account will be canceled and Koodo will send you a final bill.
If you didn't port your number, then you have to call in to cancel your monthly account.
Hi Louise, As Chad said there is a prepaid plan and the basic is $15. a month. Like you I found that I used very few minutes and almost no data as you will see below. I went to a Koodo kiosk at the Brantford Mall and switched from monthly to prepaid. The young lady switched everything for me and explained everything to me and agreed it was the way for me to go. It cost me $60. initially for the first month, 500 minutes (Canada wide), 500 MB of data and unlimited texting (which is anywhere in the world). There was a $20. fee for the sim card which was waived. Because I agreed to have auto top up they gave me an additional 100 minutes of talk. The best thing for me is that the unused talk and data roll over every month. Since May 2015, I have used 73 minutes of talk so I have 527 minutes left and I have used less that 10 MB of data so I have about 490 MB of data left. $15 plus tax ($16.95) is charged to my visa every 30 days. For that your account is credited with a $1.50 a month. I have $27. accumulated which I can use to buy talk or data boosters when I need them. Chadwick also made a good point, so the math is up to you after looking at your self serve account for your usages. The con to a prepaid account is that you cannot buy roaming add-ons to the US for instance. If your phone is locked to Koodo I'm not sure, I bought mine unlocked, so you may have to get it unlocked to do the switch. But as Chad can explain, you can buy prepaid wherever you travel outside of Canada, so your phone will work.
