Can I bring a phone from another provider and still keep my same Koodo plan?

I currently have a Tab Large and an excellent plan on a Koodo phone. I need a new phone. Can I bring a phone bought from somewhere else, and still keep my same Koodo plan and phone number? I see there is a "bring your own phone" option at Koodo, but this option does not specify whether it applies to existing customers or not. Thanks!

Hi marnie,
As long as the phone is compatible with Koodo network, you can put your current SIM in it and it will work

Thank you! Do I have to pay off my Tab balance first?

How do I know if it is compatible with Koodo? For example, if I buy an unlocked phone from Amazon that was on the T-Mobile network, will that work with Koodo? sorry for all the questions. Thank you!

If you bought a phone from another carrier, make sure it is unlocked first. Next, you can check its compatibility on various website like https://willmyphonework.net/  or you can ask people in this forum.

Great! That website says the T-Mobile phone will work on 3G and 4G LTE networks, and shows it is thus compatible with Koodo.
Thanks for all of your help Azure!

Voice of experience: unlocked T-Mobile gear works fine with Koodo, even roaming in the US on yet another network. Check the vendor reputations on Amazon or eBay if you are buying used or refurb. Some are more reliable than others.

Chubbiestech on eBay sells for a little more than some others but the refurb phone I received was indistinguishable from brand new.
