Can I activate my Koodo sim card and keep my existing number for Koodo and my old plan (Solo mobile) under a new number?

I purchased a used unlocked LG G4 which has an unactivated Koodo SIM card. My current provider is Solo Mobile which no longer activates new customers. I wish to keep the Solo plan under a different number to give to a family member.
From what I understand, my old plan will be cancelled if I go to Koodo with my old number, and my Solo plan will no longer be available. But if I switch the number on my Solo plan first then immediately open a Koodo plan, will Koodo be able to give me the old number? Or can I only keep the old number as long as I hold the rights to it?
My current plan is a pay per use for Solo and I would like a monthly plan on Koodo.

Hi Steve,

You would not be able to move the number. Companies do not release phone numbers right away. They keep it for a period of time to be able to revert back changes just in case. You might just have to get a new number if you want to keep your solo plan the way it is.
