Calling with basic Prepaid?

Is it possible to make calls with a basic 15$ prepaid plan? I was told I would need to add at least 5$ per month to get a 20 cents per minute rate and that without this supplement, it would be impossible to make any calls.

Since I don't plan on calling anyone (except for emergencies), I figured that there would be a 30 cents per minute fee should I ever call without the add-on...

So is it impossible to call with the basic 15$ prepaid plan? Or will there be a per minute fee?

Yeah you need a Talk booster add-on to make calls with the $15 base plan. The cool thing is, the boosters you add on don't expire as long as the base plan is kept renewed.

You need to have a talk booster to call on the basic prepaid plan
There are three talk boosters for prepaid,
500 mins for $25 which is 5 cents/min
100 mins for $10 which 10 cents a min
25 mins for $5 which is the 20 cents a min, the guy mentioned
After the booster is purchased you DO NOT pay the per minute rate that's just for illustration to show that the larger boosters have more value.
I recommend getting a 100 min booster that way you'll have plenty enough for emergency calling and the booster lasts until you finish off all 100 mins!
EDIT: my typing took way too long :(

You can call in wi-fi as long as you have an app.
Thank you! I'll probably get a 10$ then.

On a related question, would you happen to know what happens if I cancel my service for a month/don't pay? (eg. I go on vacation and don't want to pay) Do I get to keep whatever money/add-ons were in my account? (eg. after my vacation, will I still have 100 minutes left?)

P.S. While I appreciate the alternative, Chris, the point really is to be able to use in emergencies, so wi-fi is out of the question, but thanks.

You have to keep the base plan topped up each month. Boosters carry over as long as that is maintained. There should be a 90 day grace period if you forget but it's better to at least do the base plan.
You're just too fast! Thanks!
