I would like to call on any of you iphone ebayers!

I have heard a buzz that one should be careful buying iphones from other countries because they may not work on your cellular networks? Seems fairly obvious if they are locked phones but I got the understanding there was a risk involving "unlocked" phones as well.

If I purchase a phone that is unlocked phone from AT&T or another american cell company is there really a chance it could not work with Telus/Koodo?

Thanks

P.S. I don't want to purchase an iphone from koodo because I want to switch to pre-paid

Most of the North American iPhones are the same model. The only exceptions are Verizon phones since they use some type of weird hybrid CDMA/GSM system and even then, I've seen some Verizon phones successfully unlocked and used on Telus/Koodo anyway.

One thing to check if you buy it off ebay is to ensure they haven't been reported stolen if they are pre-owned phones.

That registry is Canada-only, and it's on a voluntary basis so not all mobile providers are on it.

It's also fairly slow to update.

So always buyer beware, since phones originating from outside of Canada won't be on that registry at all.
