I'm in need of purchasing a replacement phone for my mangled one (that is not even worth repairing). I am not the account holder, but would I be able to replace my phone myself at a koodo store/kiosk or do I have to bring the account holder? ):

You can go by yourself. :)
You'll need to ask the account holder to call koodo and add you as an authorized user once that's done, you can upgrade without the account holder present.
Also your tab has to be paid off before upgrading your phone.

Dangit. So if my tab is still pretty significant I guess I might just have to go for a repair instead?

That depends on how much the cost of repairs will be. If the phone is able to be repaired then it may be cheaper. If you have a phone on something like a Tab Large you may end up spending more money than needed when getting a new phone.

Best thing to do is check with a local phone repair shop or even go to the nearest Koodo kiosk and see what they will quote for repairs. That will be the easiest way to make a decision on what you should do. Hope that helps. :)
