Buying new phone/ Switching carrier but keep the number

Hi, I'm currently having a nano sim card with an activated Mobilicity plan. But I have no phone to use and Mobilicity's service is just insufficient. When I saw a  samsung galaxy s5 deal from koodo, I thought it would be really good. But since nano sim doesn't work on s5 I need a micro sim. I am considering to go to a Koodo shop, port my number and get a new micro sim card while keeping my previous number, and then go to order the phone online. Is it a good plan? Thanks

Yes, it's a great plan. Remember not to cancel your Mobilicity service until Koodo completes the number port though. When you order your phone online does not really matter, although I would recommend that you order it a few days before you go to a Koodo kiosk, so that you can start using Koodo service as soon as phone number porting is completed.

When your micro SIM card is ready for use, you can't really use the service without a phone, so having a phone ready would be helpful.

Sorry but I have a problem. It's because I am not able to order it without ordering a sim card and a selected monthly plan. I want to port my number and get the Koodo sim card activated so that I can log into monthly service and buy a new phone without having to buy a new sim. I'm not sure if I can do it other way around. Get a new sim card and select a monthly plan before porting my number? Do you have any suggestion? Thank you.

Right, so as you mentioned, you can get a Koodo SIM card activated at a kiosk, then log in to Self Serve to buy a new phone. But you can also go to a Koodo kiosk and buy the phone and activate the SIM card at the same time, so that you don't have to order it online. Is it because the phone you want is not offered at your local kiosk?

They will  run a credit check when you sin up for a monthly/postpaid service.
So, don't forget to bring proper ID when you go to a kiosk.
Also, if you brought your current provider's account information, you can request porting your number at a same time.
