I bought an extra GB of data and didn't know that it would disappear when my new billing cycle started over . Only used 512 mb . You think that it would carry over to next month

No carrier in Canada currently rolls over data postpaid. Prepaid you buy minutes and data and it doesn't expire.

The prepaid data is quite a bit more expensive at purchase, since it doesn't "evaporate". Built in to every carrier's business plan is that a certain percentage of minutes and data purchased are never used so they can shade a little on the price.
Considering the prices we pay in Canada, you can be sure they are not shading anything on the price for any reason.

What did the text message for your shock free data options say when you bought more data?

Yes be mindful of your billing cycle with postpaid. Anything you buy expires when your billing cycle ends.
