I am currently on the old Tab plan where a percentage of my monthly bill goes towards my Tab. I now have a positive Tab balance of $108.

I am interested in buying outright (i.e. no Tab) the Moto 3rd Gen phone for $240. My questions are:

  1. Can I use my $108 Tab balance toward the cost of the phone? I'd pay the remaining $132 with my credit card.
  2. Will purchasing a new phone stop a percentage of my monthly bill going towards my Tab?
  3. Will I be able to keep my current plan? Right now I pay $39/mth for

  • 600 MB data
  • Unlimited Text
  • Call Display
  • Voicemail

1: yes you can! That's all you can use it for. I don't believe that you can use the positive tab for an outright purchase but you can pay off the amount after 90 days.
2. That's right. You will have to switch to the new tab system where you no longer get a contribution towards the tab an you pay I off 100% yourself over time.
3. As long as you don't get the tab large you can keep your plan.

You can use your positive tab for outright purchase.
My understanding is that you have to wait for 90 days to pay off the tab if you received the activation credit.

You can keep your plan.
But $1 more ($40) and you will get 500 min and 1GB with current promo.
It might be better to considering to get it :)

Hey John! You can also check out our current plans http://koo.do/1HRe5Gz which include some promotional ones. If you decide to change your plan or upgrade your phone, you will lose your positive Tab contributions.

Hey Melissa, I went to get the phone at the Koodo store but they guy couldn't answer my question so I didn't buy. Was wondering if you could help.

I want to give the phone to my daughter. she will use it on another network. I understand Koodo won't unlock the phone for 3 months. Is that a Koodo rule or is it built into the phone? My thinking is I can use someone other than Koodo to unlock it right away.

Of course you can use another service, depending on the phone it might be much cheaper too. I have had good results with http://unlockbox.ca (Canadian $) but many swear by http://www.cellunlocker.net (US $) as well. I'd definitely price both!
