I want to use a blackberry z30 on Koodo. Koodo rep told me the phone needs to be unlocked. The Telus rep. that sells the z30 told me that their phones are locked. What do I do?

Since it's a Telus Z30 it may work with koodo without being unlocked.

Visit a koodo retailer to test it

Also if you do need to unlock it, you can buy an unlock code from crackberry.com

Crackberry shut down their unlocking service at the end of October

Few options:
1) It will likely work as-is, as Koodo is owned by Telus. I know I was able to put a telus sim in a koodo phone that was locked. Mileage may vary
2) get an unlock code from the net. Keep in mind, the warranty is gone, but in theory, you won't have one once you move carriers
3) wait until December 2nd, which at that point, a carrier must unlock it if you buy a phone outright. Fees may vary.

@Ivan. Interesting, it was the case a few weeks ago when I checked. I noticed that while Koodo's faq has the link in search, it is actually now gone.

Searching Koodo's faq for Unlocking Phone, returns:

Can I unlock my Koodo phone with SIM card | Koodo Mobile
Please call *611 from your Koodo Mobile phone, toll free at 1-866-99-KOODO if you would like to unlock your phone. A $50 charge will apply. Just a heads up ...
help.koodomobile.com/getting-started-with-koodo/sim-cards-and-non-koodo-phones/can-i-unlock-my-koodo-phone-with-sim-card

Which the 'heads up goes on to day unlocking using 3rd party voids warranty'

Here is the cached page:

Perhaps getting ready for the December 2nd changes...

Carriers have always incorrectly stated that 3rd party unlocks void warranty. I suspect that this is to encourage users to pay inflated unlocking costs through the carrier.

The thing is, the carrier isn't the one responsible for warranty. The manufacturer is the one, and they have absolutely no way of telling whether the device was unlocked via carrier or 3rd party as the process of unlocking is identical.

Unlocking the bootloader and making any sort of OS modifications is what they check for and would reject warranty claims based on that.

No argument on what you are saying. However, if it's a documented policy, than it could be used against you. The rep could check before processing the claim.

Personally, I had a 3rd party unlocked phone successfully warrantied with Koodo.. but now I'm stuck with a device that cannot be unlocked (wrong code in everyones database)...a different issue.

I tried something similar. A Koodo Z10 worked fine with a Telus sim. I would think it's very reasonable to expect the Z30 to work with Koodo without an unlock.

Hi you can easily use blackberry z30 with koodo mobile. But first you must unlock your blackberry z30 from telus mobile. You can easily unlock your telus mobile by using unlock code. If you need unlock code you can visit this site http://www.mobile-unlocker.com/blackb... here you can get the code and unlock your mobile from telus network . Then after you can use koodo network and any other network.

Wow thanks for the spam! Warning! Never ever use the website above. Insanely. Overpriced and in this instance totally unnecessary.

As of this moment, Z30 is out of stock and Koodo is offering a better deal on the Q5
