BB always outsourced most tech companies do. A few huge manufacturing companies (mostly in Asia) make pretty much everything. RAM, CPU, screens you name it. BB was never made in Waterloo or elsewhere in Canada. Just software and servers was ever in Canada and is still here. Food for thought Chad Burr
Tristan, Blackberry devices WERE actually made in Canada. I bought a Curve in 2008 that was manufactured in Canada.

Actualy they werent Kit. They got the right for the Maple Leaf sticker because they meet the 15% req which came from using chips from ATI in Ottawa which were made in Taiwan. Which no longer meets specs because ATI is now owned by AMD and BB cant make the made in Can claim anymore

I'm in, me and Chad and a few other MM have been definitely showing Koodo intrested in the device so we're trying to pursue them into carrying it if they take our suggestions at all that is lol.

Chad and anyone else who hasn't hit the "Me To" icon up top to make it more visual that there's definite intrested in the Priv

The BlackBerry PRIV is the best Android device available right now. TELUS own Koodo, so if TELUS wants Koodo to have or not have the PRIV, tha what Koodo will get.

I'm not confident that Koodo will carry it, considering its price tag, but there's a small hope since this one runs Android.

I'm hoping they'll consider that the Tab Plus will make it much more affordable before opting out of carrying it. I really don't want to have to buy it outright and unlock it, but i will for my cheap as hell unlimited everything plan.

Come on, Koodo!

You can buy it unlocked from the Blackberry website, plus they offer one year of technical support. If you bought it from somewhere else, unlocked it and something went wrong. No company one would help you for free. But yes, with the tab it'd be much more affordable up front.

You can get that year of help/warranty if you buy from Best Buy too, and if you wanna pay a bit extra per month you can get a replacement warranty. But i'm still holding out (probably useless) hope for Koodo.

Koobo keeps haggling me about upgrading my phone. The cell phone I have is not even a year old and if they want to get my attention they will have to offer me the BlackBerry Priv.

Agreed.  I joined Koodo when there was BlackBerry, but now that they stopped carrying it, I'm not sure if I can stay when I need a new phone (which likely will be soon).  I only want BlackBerry because it is a very good brand, and the only Canadian brand (used to live by them).  It also has good functions, a good keyboard, and capabilities/security.

If I were to guess, looking at the price of the Priv, its not going to be launching any time soon with Koodo. While even I would like to get one, I'm not willing to shell out that money on a device that is in my mind a risk. And I would bet the majority of customers out there, likely aren't going to pay the $400 it would be on Tab Plus to try a phone. At that price people want phones that they KNOW are going to be awesome. So I personally don't think its going to sell a ton, I think Blackberry needs to eat some cost and drop the price to get some marketshare back. Blackberry isn't a flagship brand anymore, they need to stop charging the same price as the flagship brands.

After using the Priv for the last day my initial impressions are that this is just not a Blackberry.  I talked to the Koodo booth at our mall and there smart ass answer was that we just dont like Blackberry and will not be carrying any.../  Take the BB name off and I believe this is an S6s Galaxy.  SAD

I've had a chance to use it as well. The good news is, it IS very similar to the S6 in terms of quality, and yet it also has all the key features BlackBerry users have come to love. I also talked to the guys in the Koodo booth in my mall, and they are very confident the Priv will work fine with Koodo, but don't think they'll carry it. It's an awesome phone and the sliding keyboard is a work of art.

I've tested pretty much every aspect of the phone. I'd say it's everything it promises to be. It's a beauty. It's almost perfect, except for the damn 2mp front camera. The main camera is amazing though.

It bothers me that Telus carries it but Koodo doesn't . Blackberry is the only Canadian company that supplies their own phones. It's a real shame that Koodo doesn't support Canadian phones. Those people that point out it isn't built in Canada, iPhones are made in China, so what.
As for the price point, look at the prices of the iPhone 6s. Price should not be an issue.
Come on Koodo!

To be completely honest, it's a horrible phone with horrible battery life. Unless you are looking for a pocket-sized heater, get any phone but the PRIV.

I disagree greatly that it's a horrible phone, but it has been plagued with quality control issues sadly. Especially for the price that should be unacceptable. As for why Fido and not Koodo, well Fido has its reasons and Koodo has its reasons. I certainly don't blame Koodo for deciding not to carry it. As I've said before, at 600k sales per quarter and dropping fast it doesn't leave much confidence. Also, you're not getting a subsidy from Koodo, so if you really want the Priv, may as well support BB 100% by letting them have all the money and buy direct. Now if they'll finally discount the bloody thing after Chen admitted that they priced it too high....
