Black Screen - Help? (LG Nexus 5)

I have an LG Nexus 5 -- it's 8 months old.
(1) After I dial a number and I want to put it on speaker phone, the screen goes black and only occasionally blinks on for a second then it's black again. This makes it almost impossible to use the speaker phone and to see the dial pad (to choose options, e.g., when I call the bank and have to key in stuff). Does anyone else have this problem with the LG Nexus 5?
(2) I also lose calls regularly -- 3 or 4 times a day, while using my phone in a room that at other times I can have keep a call for as long as I want.
(3) The camera also becomes "unavailable" (error message) every once in a while, and (I've figured out) the only way to solve that problem is to power off and power on again.
...I am really regretting I chose this phone... Also, I am new at Koodo (first contract) and I feel very anxious that I cannot phone Koodo for help without incurring service fees. In the first week that I started with Koodo 8 months ago, I called for help and the 2 calls were answered by very nice, very knowledgeable, very helpful and professional staff. In fact I wrote a response comment about that. But now that service is no longer a strength that I can count on from Koodo since calling for help costs $25!

I would take it to the nearest Koodo shop and ask them to send it for warranty repair If it's under 1 year.
If they can't fix it under warranty for some reason, they will tell you the cost of repair and you can decide if you want to go with it or not.

You can still call Koodo and ask for technical support or billing questions and they won't charge you for that.
They will charge you if you ask them to make a change that you can do by yourself through self serve.

Just wondering if you've gone ahead with the Lollipop upgrade. You can find out which version of Android you're running by going to: Settings > About phone > Android version. You can also check for software updates in the same area under System updates. If you're on KitKat 4.4.x, then an upgrade to Lollipop is likely waiting for you to download and install.

https://developers.google.com/android...

It's recommended that after installing Lollipop, you factory reset the device before loading all of your personal data, photos, apps, music, etc. You can skip through the initial setup phase, (e.g. gmail account) and go directly to Settings > Backup and reset, to perform the factory reset. If all else fails, follow Mayumi's suggestions.

Thank you, Mayumi, and rikkster, for your replies; I really appreciate them. Mayumi, I went to a Koodo shop (inside a mall) but was told that since I didn't get the phone from there, they couldn't help me. I have not yet gone to the original shop (it's a Superstore mobile phones kiosk) as I don't pass by it Mon-Fri but I will make a special trip there on a Sat. rikkster, I checked and the Android version is 5.1, and the system replies to request for updates with "you're up to date". The black screen problem continues, and I still lose calls mid-way.

You're welcome Syo. Here are the instructions to factory reset your Nexus 5.

https://support.google.com/nexus/answ...

I've read a number of reports where upgrading to Android version 5.1 on some Nexus devices has caused device instability or app unresponsiveness and a factory reset generally resolves the problem. It doesn't hurt to take your phone into a Koodo kiosk, but if this solves the problem, it'll save you a trip.

Hi, Sho. The Mobile Shop is a Koodo's retail partner. They should be able to send it for repair. If I remember correctly, the mobile shop could send a phone for repair if you bought it from them. But if they say they can't, you should go back to Koodo shop(not retailers) and ask again.

I completely understand your situation. In fact, im in the same kind of one! my screens gone black too and when I asked koodo for help they said they couldn't do anything because I did't get it there. I when there 5 times ( yes five) asking if they could repair it or at least help best I had a warranty and im still waiting for it to be fixed. then I got it back was told It got fixed, and it was still broken!! I hope koodo becomes a bit more supportive and truthful soon.
