Just received my bill, there's an extra $5.00 charge for Data on May 22, 2017. Funny I was out of town and my phone was at home. There was no one in the house.

If you are on an old plan that doesn't have shock free, or if you don't have notifications set to alert you at 100% than no. 
You can check this by logging into self serve, click View usage, click change Data Alerts, and see that the box has a checkmark and above it says 100%, like this:

As well you can receive a $5 data charge if you were close to the US border as that is the standard data rate for the US.
