I just bought my phone today and my account says that there's 7 days until my next bill. I just set up pre auth from my bank. I was under the impression that the remainder of this period will be added to my next bill. What is going on?

I understand not knowing about your first bill.

Your first bill you will be billed a prorated amount (the length of time that you have the new plan) which in your case is 7 days. We will figure out how much it is per day and multiply it by the number of days.

For example - you have a $60 plan but have only had it for 7 days - we will take the cost of the plan and divide it by 30 (Koodo has made it easy by saying there are that many days in a month - instead of having to figure out if there are 28,29, 30, or 31 days) - which works out to $2 per day.

So for the first 7 days you are charged $14 (plus tax - cant leave the government out), and then you are charged one month in advance. All of your bills will be charged 1 month in advance for the plan, but billed for that month for the usage (ie. any overage).

As a result your first bill is higher.

Also, you will get your first bill approx 4-5 days after the end of your billing period.

If you change your plan part way through the month, the same proration occurs:

You paid in advance for the $60 plan (example from above), but halfway through the month you decide that you are going to change to a $30 plan.

You receive a credit for the length of time that you are not on the $60 plan (approx $30) and then you get charged for the length of time that you are on the new plan (approx $15).

Thanks for the reply! I guess my question is as follows: I dont have a credit card. If it takes an entire billing period to set up the pre auth from my bank how am I supposed to pay the first one?

Is there any card that you can use to pay for the first month's bill?

No, not until the pre auth is set up. I literally have no other cards. This is the reason I got the plan is because the Koodo guys told me the pre auth can be set up in time because the first bill will be combined with NEXT months bill...

Online banking. All banks provide it.

You can also pay your bill at the bank. Do people not know you can still do that these days?

If that first card is valid you can call customer service and have them charge your credit card.

As Dennis said, you can go to the bank and pay it through there (it takes 3-5 business days to post to your account)

Various payment options include:

Bank Teller/ATM/Online banking
One time credit card payment (as long as the credit card does not have to be registered)
Certain prepaid credit cards
Some Visa debit cards
Cheque/Money Order
Western Union
MoneyGram (through Canada Post outlets)
