Bill and Tab Question

Looking to join up with Koodo and have been shopping online to see what I'm interested in.
I'm Looking at the Samsung Galaxy S8 and it says it would be putting $504 on a 24 month tab making the bill a total of the plan($84 per month) plus the tab(21 per month).

This I understand but I've been trying to find out if its possible to pay my total monthly bill and when I have extra money be able to pay directly towards clearing my tab to help get rid of the extra $21 per month which would be adding more money in tax even thought its not a lot extra I like to save where I can.

So would it be possible to pay off the tab quicker or Is the tab portion of the monthly bill not included when taxes are added to the total bill? Or are taxes included in the portion already that says it would be $84 per month for the plan I'm leaning towards?

Buying a phone on tab large is not a good deal unless you want a tab large plan. Medium plan and tab is much better deal. Tab can only be paid off in full after 90 days. Its either pay it off in full or the monthly fee.

I wouldn't go for a tab large if you can avoid it. Spend the extra $100 up front and go tab medium so that you can get a cheaper plan.

On tab large the cheapest you can get is $79 plan + $21 tab = $100/month
With tab medium the cheapest you can get is $45 plan + $15 tab = $60/month

It would be $84 plus $21 with taxes on it all.

That's kinda disappointing that they are taxing the tab portion but thank you for the quick replies.

Its an interest free loan basically and taxes are something we cant avoid. Kinda hard to find a better deal really.

You're still paying for the phone with the tab, so taxes are still involved.

Exactly.  It's like when you lease a new car, you pay tax on the monthly payment vs when you buy a new car (in cash or through financing), you pay the taxes at time or purchase.  Either way, you're paying the tax, it's just a matter of how and when it's collected.

[Yes, I realize this is an imperfect analogy, since with a car lease you only end up paying tax on the portion of the car you pay for, essentially the purchase price minus the defined-up-front depreciated residual value at lease end.  However, the "pay now or pay later but you're going to pay it eventually" aspect of the analogy still works.]

Just to clarify, you are paying for the tax regardless.  If you buy the phone all in one shot or splitting it up into payment.  You are taxed on it the same.  At the end of 24 months, regardless of which method you use, you pay the same amount of tax on the phone
