the travel add on's for the USA, any chance we will see a more competitive rate or package offered in monthly plans Rogers offers the $5 roam like home and Wind Mobile offers unlimited roaming in their $50 a month plan, would love to see something like this with Koodo

I doubt we will see anything close to the cross-border roaming WIND offers but roaming packages are always getting better so it's only a matter of time until they're decent. Heck, maybe in a year they could offer something like WIND does. But until it actually happens, there's no point in asking if its going to happen because they can't speculate.

Have you thought about getting a SIM form a US provider? You don't have to be stuck on koodo for roaming, just unlock your phone and go with a prepaid US sim.

I wish Koodo would introduce a true pay per use US roaming option. I really can't figure out how they consider $5 per hundred texts pay per use?? Depending on the timing of your billing date and travel date it could actually work out to as much as $5 per text, lol! I maintain an old WIND Pay Your Way account mainly for that purpose, 5 cents per text, 15 cents per minute and 5 cents per Mb and I could reduce those rates even further with an add on.

Actually no it couldn't.

Apologies then. That is what has been reported in this community previously. In any event $5 per 100 texts is not pay per use pricing .

And come to think of it, it could be $5 per text if I only send 1 text while visiting the states shopping for the day?

Yes. And $5 a day roaming with Rogers is pretty expensive if all you do is get one phone call as well.

If you spend a fair amount of time in the US, a cheap alternative is a prepaid Tracfone. LG refub smartphone will cost about $20, and $100 US will buy you a year's service with 1200 minutes, 1200 texts and 1200 MB. Not as full-featured as any Koodo phone or plan, but you can call & text US & Canada while you are in the US at regular rates and do 3G data. Very popular with the snowbird crowd. Of course, you will get a US number and the phone will not work in Canada period, but you don't have to juggle SIMS or get your Koodo phone unlocked.

Sooner or later Canadian carriers may catch on with something geared for this market.
