Hi guys,

Just wondering if it's better to switch monthly plan at beginning or end of the billing cycle or if ti really doesn't matter since everything will be pro-rated anyways?

I'm not busting data, text or minutes and cycle ends on the 25th....

The best time to change your plan would be the end of your cycle. Makes billing and proration easier when looking at your bill. Less chance of any overages and such.
If proration doesn't matter to you then change it whenever you want

Do it the 24th. Just before everything is up since that will give you the smallest prorate for the switch. IMO the way Koodo prorates is not how we would use our phones. If you switch plans whenever you don't get you're moneys worth. You probably know how prorate works but just to show you, say you're on a $60 dollar plans with 200 minutes and 1GB. You used up 25/30days. And you decided to switch plans to $25 with 100 minutes and 100mb of data.

So now you would be paying $55 for the 25 days of usage. Plus $4.15 for the rest of the month on the new plan with 16.65 minutes of air time and 16.65mb of data. (100min/30*5days)

So you don't get alot of minutes now, and say you haven't really used up much of the 200min or 1gb from your previous plan, well now that's gone. And you're stuck with 16.65 minutes and 16.65mb of data for the next business week.

Something to consider because we aren't robots allocating an exact amount of minutes and data per day. We use cell minutes and data spontaneously for the most part. And it could be 60 minutes today and 5 minutes the next, 100mb today, 1gb tomorrow.

Again, my opinion is to do it just before your billing cycle is up and try to do it at night, so then if you do need to make an unexpected call it will most likely be on the unlimited evenings or weekends if it falls in the right time frame. Nothing is worst then trying to save money and if out you're paying for extra minutes and data pay per use isn't cheap.

If her billing cycle ENDS on the 25th, the day to do it is on the 25th...

Also, proration works like that on ANY service provider, doesn't matter if it's mobile, cable tv or internet.

Topper, I think the community is great! So far, All my questions have been answered in a timely fashion with very good answers from different members. I work for the competition and we don't offer this kind of service!

Hello Ric,

I don't know if this is possible, but you could give them a call, and tell them to make the change in advance. For example, month 1 will be on plan A and when the month 2 starts, it will automatically switch to plan B. It's just a suggestion. This is what I might do!

So I switched plan 1 day before my bill cycle ended and everything went smoothly. Information given on screen about pro-rated charges was accurate and easy to understand.

Cheers all and thanks for the tips!
