BBM error when I put my SIM into my old BB Curve

Ok, so here is the situation. I have an old BB Curve 9300, but in the fall I bought a Samsung Galaxy SIIx which I have been using since with the same sim card, and the BB has been just sitting in a drawer.

I recently got a new job and my employer bought me a new phone, and handles all the billing and everything. I am not going to carry around 2 phones, so I will likely be shutting down my Koodo account, however, I am going to wait a couple months, just to make sure that everyone has my new number.

So, here is the real problem. I gave my wife my SIIx and she popped her sim card in and everything is working just perfect for her (she had a BB Curve 9300 too). For me, things aren't going as expected. I put my sim card back into my old BB, and calls, texts, and browsing works fine, but I can't connect to BBM, nor can I get my email setup and working. both just time out when I try to connect.

Any ideas?

You need to Change your plan to a BlackBerry specific plan. Does the browsing works fine only on WiFi ?

On further inspection, you are right, the browsing only works over wifi. But this brings up a new question. My wife and I are on the same plan, the Canada-Wide Data Plan 39, i.e. not a BB specific plan, and yet, before my wife took over my SIIx, she had no issues with BBM or browsing.

How come data worked fine for her on a non-BB plan, with a BB, yet it doesn't for me?

Is it possible that you changed your plan When you change phones ?

Because of the way Blackberries worked in the past you needed a specific plan for them. Now other phones could sometimes work on a Blackberry plan (such as your wifes), where as Blackberries wouldn't work on a Non-Blackberry plan.

Hey Ken, don't forget to do the host routing table registeration. To do this, go to options > device > advanced system settings > host routing table > press the Blackberry menu button and select register now.

Your data services will need to be on. Once you get confirmation has been sent, it should only take a minute to receive confirmation back. If you don't receive anything back, do a battery pull and the registeration will be complete.
