Since I signed up with Koodo, I've had very lousy cell service. Sometimes people go straight to my voice mail. Sometimes they get nothing happening when they call. Text messages come 2-3 hours late sometimes, while other times they are instant.

When experiencing call problems, if a person texts me, they can then call me. And sometimes they need to call me to be able to text me.

These are all at times when I have very good cell signal. It's not my phone either, because it worked just fine on rogers network.

Belive it or not it could actually be your phone. Just because it works on rogers doesn't automagically make it compatible with Koodo Frequencies,

Can you tell us what Android you have and if possible, the Model Number ? It's usually located under the battery.

I checked in advance that it had the correct frequencies. And, it works sometimes, and not others; frequencies do not work one time, and not another.

And this happens with my brother's phone as well, which he bought at Koodo. So I KNOW for a fact this IS a Koodo problem.

Well of course you do! :D The question is, how can it be resolved? Perhaps Koodo support could look into the problem. I have an SMS message thread with dates/times. Apparently my friend rambled on for 15 minutes, and then all of a sudden I got all of her texts at once. So, perhaps there's some way of checking logs to see when the other service provider (rogers) sent the message, when Koodo received it, and when it was passed to my phone. I'm guess it would be 5 minutes of work to diagnose (I don't know that though, cause I don't know how well this stuff is logged), if someone would just do it. :D

Text messages are not instant communication, though they often appear to be so. Delayed arrival of texts is not unusual, and is to be expected as part of the store & forward protocol of the service.

I have this model. This happens to me also but not much. Of course anytime is too much but technology is not perfect. I was with Rogers from 97 - 2012. Long time, but there were problems galore. I had a note 2 locked to Rogers. Even service in my house sucked however my wife had a s3 with rogers at the same time with no problems at all. Go figure.

Oh, by the way, I did setup the newest APN settings that I found on Koodo's site. they were previously set to something else when they originally setup my phone. But, they are now set to the ones found on the page below, but the problem still persists...

I have the same Note II you have. Download Signal Strength by Lakshman at google play. Trying to gauge reception by number of bars is useless: you need to know the real dB values.

I live in a rural signal "black hole". The local Bell/Koodo cell tower is only 500 feet away, but there are hills and dense old growth forest blocking a perfect line-of-sight to my home. 200 feet away I show 3 bars (-91dB), yet in my home office (with aluminum horizontal blinds), there was often no service (-110 dB).

The interactive dB meter will allow you orient your phone in such a way as to maximize your signal. I now have a good spot on the corner of my desk with 100% reliable operation.

It's entirely possible that when connected with Rogers, you were linking to a completely different tower than your current Koodo one, which would explain why all your family's Koodo phones are sharing your problem. Doesn't mean that Koodo is a "poor" choice and Rogers a "better" one, just that in your location one tower works better than the other.

At least with Koodo, you are not hog-tied to a contract, and can easily go back to Rogers if that is what you wish. I had a similar problem with good Rogers reception, switched to Bell, which had useless reception in that area, and was stuck to pay out the balance of the Bell contract.

One very important point not made clear in your original post: everyone has problems JUST at your particular location, or everywhere?

Not really relevant. This happens no matter where I am. I'm in town, and from what I recall, the Rogers and Telus towers in this area are shared. The signals within town limits are flawless. I can go from receiving text messages instantly, to not receiving them for 20 minutes, in the same place.

It's not the signal, it's not the tower (it happens in the city too), it's not the phone, etc. There's either a configuration issue in the koodo end, or there might be a SIM issue, but replacing the SIM only *helped*, it didn't make it go away. It's possible it's a congestion issue in the SMS network now, where as before it was in fact the SIM; I'm just not sure on that. All I *know* is that there's a problem on the koodo end.

You've basically ruled out every possible scenario in terms of this being a problem with your device. A bad batch of SIM's is not unheard of, but generally quite rare. A new SIM may correct the problem, but I think the root of the problem is network related. The next step would be to contact Koodo to see if there are any issues affecting the network in your area.

I would recommend calling via landline 1-866-995-6636 or *611 from a friends cell phone if possible, in the morning. The rep will likely want to perform troubleshooting steps with your phone.

I tested my theory that my phone has to make an outgoing connection, before I can receive. I have a twitter script that can send out message from one account, to my other account, for monitoring things like my backups. It tells me how big the backup was, and if it succeeded or failed.

So, I used the script to just send two messages about 5 minutes apart, with a date/time stamp in them. They were immediately received in twitter, but never received by my phone. I then decided to send out a message to someone, as I wanted to quickly chat with them, but also wanted to test the theory that if I make an outgoing SMS message, then I'll immediately receive the incoming ones. Sure enough, I instantly received my messages, both of them.

FYI, I'm at about -85dB at my house.

Hmmm.....delayed texts etc. happen with every carrier.....I don't have answer as to the challenges with your phone. I do have a niece who goes Athabasca University. We talk, text back forth with her. She has an iPhone from koodo and doesn't have any noticeable issues with their service at all. Mistery continues.:-)

I have never had issues like this, where you can't receive calls half the time, and your texts only work half the time. Koodo is the first.

Update with personal experience: have unlocked Note II Koodo phone with a US carrier's SIM card that uses AT&T network while I am down south for the winter. Everything was perfect till early this morning. Then outgoing calls would ring forever and never connect, incoming would never show on my screen and text messages would neither send nor receive, just like the original poster.

Re-started the phone and of course it sounded like a slot machine hitting the jackpot with the messages and notifications pouring in.

I'm not using Koodo's network or SIM at all, so that can't be the problem. I suspect some residual firmware issues regarding handshaking in the phone even though it was unlocked through Koodo.

You really shouldn't have to do it, but until the problem is solved, you can temporarily go into Apps=>Messaging=>Settings=>Delivery reports & turn the check-box on. Will force the system awake and give you confirmation your message was received. Alternatively, you can send yourself a text message to get the system to manually cycle.

That's not true, you're only confirming more that it's likely a network issue, because it happens at other providers too. Remember, a variety of people experience this with completely different phones.

There is one potential alternative, and that is that all the people having the issues are using the same android SMS app. I'm looking into this with my brother right now. I'm reverting to the stock cyanogen sms app.

Since OP has a modified phone, Nick90492 advice near the bottom of the page may be pertinent. I am out of my depth in that dept.

Different SMS app may help texting, but voice problems...?

However, it wouldn't be the first time Samsung has had connectivity issues.

Yeah, not sure about the voice problems. I'm not certain they are occurring since I switched to cyanogen. But, who knows how the system works in that area. Can SMS apps request a *sleep* of the network? And maybe it's too deep of a sleep, or the system itself won't wake back up afterwards?

I have seen where if I can't call my phone, I can go into airplane mode, come back out, and it's fine.

Anyhow, I rechecked my apn settings, as that guy on the thread you shared said that he changed his and it started working. Koodo recommends "APN Type" is blank. I had some settings in there, so I deleted them. We'll see what happens.

That topic seems unrelated. Is there something specific you thought might correlate?

I'm not seeing my bars disappear. I have full bars when I can't receive texts. It didn't happen after an upgrade, it happened after switching providers.
