Auto-pay change in contract?

We have paid for our phone and have requested "Pay-As-You-Go" plan, but our monthly payment plan has not changed. Please explain why our payments have not decreased?.

did you actually cancel your monthly account or just sign up for a new prepaid one?
was your monthly account setup for pre authorized payments?
