I just set up my account and chose my phone number however I am concerned re: area code. The area code in my calling area is 613 however the one assigned is 343 should I be concerned? I am wondering for long distance charges with the area code being different than my 613 area code

Ottawa and area has two area codes. Both 613 and 343. The reason for two area codes is because eventually numbers do run out and a new area code needs to be created. For example, my area is about to get our THIRD area code.

343 is an overlay area code covering the same area as 613. It was added May 17, 2010 because available numbers in 613 had been exhausted.

Hey Joe! I am in the 613 as well... since we all have to do 10 digit dialing, the only difference is punching 343 instead of 613. I have 6 different phone #'s between home, work, cellulars and voip. 3 now have 343 exchange #'s, 3 are still on 613 (won't get rid of those as they spell my name....) It will just take a little getting used to when you give out your phone #..
