I was wondering if there are any plans without data or texting. A plan for the dedicated caller. My father wants to get rid of his house phone and get a cell phone. All he wants the phone for is to call and receive calls for a good price. Could someone point me in the right direction of where to look or something along the lines that he is looking for. All the plans I see are mainly focusing upon texters and data users.

Hi Kyle,

Unfortunately the plans that Koodo has available are the only ones that they have, unless someone wanted prepaid which has more focus on calling and texting than data if you wanted to use it that way only downside is that prepaid does offer Canada wide calling, but you need to buy a bucket of minutes to use it, where the postpaid plans have it included, but not without having some form of data included. So you can choose either, but that's the way Koodo works with both prepaid and postpaid when it comes to their plans, I've post a link for you to check out both options but that's what is available.

While prepaid does not include Canada-wide calling, neither would the home phone line that's being replaced so this could possibly work for them.

That's true. Hopefully one or the other will work for them. :)

I actually recommend Telus. If you bring your own device, they offer Unlimited Canada-wide calling with call display and 3 voicemails (can add more for $5) for $40/month. It does have texting included, though, because that's cheap to offer these days.

@Kyle - how about using Fongo http://www.fongo.com/ on a wifi capable cell phone or if he has a computer he can use it there as well, if he does have a laptop and wifi internet then there is also Freephoneline http://www.freephoneline.ca/ and MajicJack http://www.magicjack.com/index.html there is also Skype of course. None is as flexible as having a Dodgers homeline but they are as equally effective for occasional use and each has answer service options if needed.
