An error occurred with my SIM card... no service... new q10 and new plan

Hi. I got my new q10 last week. Joined kodoo. Paid a lot. Last night my phone disconnected and I receive the following message when I try to rejoin the network: "An error has occurred while trying to read the SIM card. Reinsert the SIM card and try again. If problem persists, please contact your service provider."

I have removed and reinserted the SIM card multiple times to try and fix this. One time it depleted my battery to zero. This is a new phone on a new plan. It was working fine for a week. Any ideas?

Hello Chris,

Could you check if there is any available updates for the phone? You will have to connect with wifi.

Interesting idea Erwin. I connected with wifi and I am downloading a software update. The status of the phone said "technical problem" though. I'll let you know how this turns out.

During the time my SIM card was not working... if I received text messages... will they appear once my SIM card is working again? Or would they have appeared once I connected to wifi?

Text messages can't come over wifi so when your SIM Card connects they should then come through.
check that no connections in the SIM Card tray have been damaged if the update doesn't work.
Did you accidentally turn on airplane mode or turn the network settings to 2g or GSM only.
If none of these suggestions help then your SIM Card might have just bit the bullet and you'll have to get a new one from Koodo.

Thanks Paul. Good comment. I finished the software update - nothing changed. Checked airplane and the network - restarted phone. Nothing changed. It sucks if I need a new SIM card... I just got it less than seven days ago.

Is Koodo prone to these problems? Never had a problem with WIND - other than their underpowered network and no q10.

No Koodo's not prone to it, it just happens with SIM Cards the odd time. I haven't had it happen personally but I have heard of it a few times before. sucks but luckily if it is that then your issue will only cost you $10 If they don't just replace it. I'd rather pay $10 and have my issue fixed then it be something I have to send the phone away to be fixed or something right.
Anyways other than this issue how were you liking the Q10? have you always had Blackberry or are you going to the Q10 from another OS?

Haha well they better not make me pay for it. Their SIM card lasts six days and I have to buy a replacement? Ha.

Tbh I was considering taking the phone back... but then I decided to keep it. If I could have found a retailer that sold the Blackberry Bold 9780 I would have gone for that. I'm going from 9700 to q10. The phone is too big - I want to be able to hold it in one hand. But I like the OS enough - and it's fast on kodoo. The swiping is taking some getting used to.

But the SIM card stuff is a fiasco. I've still got till like Thursday to return it... and we'll see what sort of customer service I get tomorrow.

I'm a big guy so I find the Q10 way too small and I can't even type on it but I had the Z10 and absolutely loved the OS and the phone but coming from the Galaxy Note 2 and now the Galaxy S4 the Z10 was way too small for me. Like I said though I absolutely love the OS and will be getting the 5" Blackberry 10 device coming out in the fall and possibly even make it my primary device, which is weird because I never thought anything could even have me consider any other OS other than Android but the BB10 OS and the swipe and flow is an awesome way to use a phone and once you get use to it your flying around the thing getting things done faster than ever.
Well good luck and I'm sure they'll get everything worked out for you, Koodo isn't #1 in customer service 3 years in a row for nothing you know ;-)
Anyways have a great night

Hello Chris,

Its really rare that SIM cards would act up but just so you know, your SIM card has a year manufacturers warranty. So just come to any Koodo kiosk and they can do an OTC exchange for you, don't forget to bring in the original receipt, the SIM card booklet and you get another free sim. If that is not the case, you can exchange your phone to any other phone as it is still under the 14 day exchange/return.

Personally, if you are planning to exchange your phone, I recommend the galaxy s4, it is the same price as the Q10.

Agree with everything you said Erwin and I highly recommend the Galaxy S4 to ppl as I am completely in love with mine but if the Q10 is too big for them then the Galaxy S4 surely will be way too big and they must love a physical keyboard if they really want to go back to an old Blackberry. The Z10 has the closest virtual keyboard to an actual physical one and they still get to keep their Blackberry services, I'd recommend the Z10 probably.

physical keypad is a necessity. i got a new sim card and after it failed the first time, i took it out and put it in again and it worked. so great. but still didn't like that i was a full weekend without service. koodo will have to earn my confidence in them.

Hello Chris,

I wish all SIM cards are manufactured with 100% full working condition, very sorry for loosing your confidence. If your phone act up again, please visit a kiosk :)
