Alternative way to reach settings in Android

I have an HTC Desire 320 running Android 4.4.2 or thereabouts. I know the normal way to get to the settings is to swipe two fingers down the screen from top to bottom. This worked find for the first many months that I've had the phone. Lately, it hardly ever works. I can swipe a six or eight times and it may not work even once. I've tried various speeds of swiping from very fast to very slow and everywhere in between but it doesn't work reliably.

Is this a routine thing for a two year old cheap phone? Is there anything I can do to make it recognize my swipes again. Failing that, is there an alternate way to reach the settings?

As phones get older they start functioning less great, especially when it comes to cheaper phones. You can try performing a factory reset and see if that helps your case.
You should be able to access your settings through a settings "app" located in the app drawer.

Thank you, Allan. That settings "app" in the app drawer solves my problem until I can get around to doing a factory reset.

You can also drag the Settings icon from the Apps to one of your screens to create a quick shortcut.

I figured out why my swipes weren't working: I wasn't starting them high enough on the screen! I hadn't done it in so long that I'd forgotten you have to start at the top of the screen, at the status bar. I was starting a little bit lower than that. Now I can get the swipes to work consistently :-)

One of these days, the term "all thumbs" is going to mean something different...
