I have been trying to order a phone online (on Koodo's site) but the checkout screen keeps charching me the HST tax. I live in Alberta and in this province only the GST tax is been charged. What do I have to do to change my location in the Koodo's site? This old guy will apreciate your help :~)

Hey there, at the bottom of the page of Koodo's site you'll notice it says "region selection" make sure to switch it to Alberta and you should be good to go!

Was going to suggest just going to a kiosk but good to know koodo has sites specifically for provinces!

When it comes to even online transactions you have to pay tax that applies to the location of that service or product your are purchasing. That's why online business in Ontario can struggle at times selling to even a US resident.

This is not true, not that I want to shut you down, but the law is very specific when it comes to this.

You only pay taxes that applies to both the company and the buyer. Example, if a company offers a product in Ontario but someone orders it by mail for Québec, the buyer only pays the federal tax that applies to both of them. The only exception to this is if that same company has a branch in the province of the buyer, then the buyer will have to pay all taxes related to his/her province.

Telecommunications work in the same way, since Koodo has towers and sells its products and services throughout Canada and has branches in every canadian province, then you pay only for the taxes related to your own province.
