Additional data with tablet

I've got a Canada wife plan with 2gb of data. I want to buy my daughter a tablet (iPad) for schoolwork. Her mom doesn't want to have wifi at her house because of the cost. So I was wondering if I can buy another SIM card and plug it into her iPad and she can use the cellular data under my account? She's a good kid and wouldn't go overboard. I'd monitor the data carefully too. Anyone have experience with this? Customer support said it should be possible, but they don't provide support for tablets. Please let me know... Thanks!

No. Koodo does not support any sort of tablet as you mentioned.

Data cannot be shared between devices.

There is a possibility of tethering the data you already have from your phone and she can connect to it as if it was a wifi connection. I guess, with this, data can be shared but not in the sense of a family plan or anything.

Unfortinately, Tyler is right. Data sharing is not supported here at Koodo. All you can do is turn on the tethering on the phone. Keep in mind you'll be using your cell phone data and this can get costly depending what the data is used for.

The technology is the same and the data connection WOULD work. The problem is that Koodo does not have any data only plans, and you would be paying for voice services on a device that cannot use them.

Ok, thanks for the clear response guys. So if I put a koodo SIM card in a tablet, nothing will happen? No signal will be picked up? The customer support person seemed to think it was at least possible.

You can put a Koodo SIM card in the tablet, but you will need to purchase a plan with data on that SIM for the tablet to have Internet access. And it will work.

The problem here is that the SIM card in the tablet would need to have a SEPARATE plan from the plan you have (Canada-wide with 2GB). It is not possible to share your 2GB data across two separate SIM cards. Koodo does not offer plans with data-only, so if you were to take a separate plan with Koodo, you would be buying a data plan with voice minutes which would never be used.

If you want to get a data-only plan for the tablet, you can purchase one from one of the other cellular carriers that offer data-only plans for tablets.

Ahh ok, thanks quasarito, that's exactly what I needed to know. I doubt there will be any service providers willing to only charge $10 - 20 / month for just data, but I'll shop around.

It will pick up the signal, and as long as the carrier settings are configured right it will be able to access data. Since Koodo doesn't have data only plans though, it isn't cost effective.

Timo is right at this point you're just better off getting an internet service provider all together at the overage rates for data on cell phone plans.
