So far im currently using the galaxy note 2 for about a month so far with a tab payment of $300 and the first option of the plan $35 a month. I chose to do the Tab payment with koodo. now I learned that koodo is offering the iPhone 5s and I'm choosing to get it free with the Tab payment. the trouble is that dad doesn't want to pay the remaining balance of the Tab to upgrade to the iphine 5s which doesn't make sense. why can't he pay the remaining of it that he chose to add 5-10 dollars to the monthly bill? even if we stop using koodo, the balance needs to be payed. I don't really see what's the point.

Added: The reason why Im upgrading is because I never knew that iphone was displayed until I asked a month after I got the note. I asked why and they told me that it's a Law by Apple.

Added: I may have to pay around 275-285 dollars from remaining tab. So if I do the upgrade, how much do I pay? My dad and myself are a bit confused about this.

Thank you.

Hi Joel,

The reason the tab balance has to be paid off is because when you choose to upgrade your phone the tab has to be reset essentially. So if you have a -$300 tab then that is money owing from the old phone. Once that is paid off it allows you to get the most out of the subsidy you want off of a phone. When you got the Note 2 it would have been $0 on a tab medium which gave you the most subsidy off the retail price of that particular phone.

With the iPhone 5S once you pay the tab balance off your account then you have the option of using the three tabs available to you. Even with the tab large the iPhone 5S is not $0. Also when it comes to the $35 plan you have on your Note 2 the only way to keep that plan is to choose a tab medium like you had before, otherwise you will need to choose from the Tab Large plans if you went with the tab large.

Here's more information on the Tab so you have a better understanding of how it works:

Also here's the link for the iPhone 5S:

Hope that helps :)

When you buy a phone, you can use the tab which means you are technically owe Koodo that amount of money... It will be paid off from 15% of your monthly bill, and eventually you will have a zero balance. You will then start to earn positive tab balance max of +150.

So paying off remaining tab ( 275-285 plus tax) and you can start fresh tab. yopu will need to pay $275 upfront and put $300 on the tab M for 5s.

If I choose to leave koodo then I still owe the remaining for tab?

And if I choose to do the upgrade? Is it worth it?

That's correct, when you have a negative balance it's what is owed to Koodo so you would need to pay it off. You can upgrade your phone at any time, but if you feel it's not going to be beneficial to you, then you don't have to. If you want to upgrade then ultimately that's your choice. Also if need be you could always sell your Note 2 to help cover the costs from paying off your tab when buying a new phone.

I don't mind selling my note 2. If I did then would koodo take it for the retail price or the Tab?

Is tax included to pay off the Tab?

I think I need to pay $287.50. Forgot the hst and gst :/

In your case you'd be better off selling the phone privately than having Koodo give you a credit for it which normally doesn't amount to much to be honest. Tax isn't included in the tab balance, so it will be $287.50 + tax when you pay it off.

Too long; didn't read most from everything.

If I pay off my current tab bal. Do I get the iphone free + the monthly tab contributions?

As Mayumi said above the cost for the iPhone 5S on a tab medium is $275 it's normally $675 without it. So the phone wouldn't be free regardless of the tab size you choose.
