hi..i have a phone from koodoo..the contract was under my exes name..i still have the phone and would like to activate it again..how do i go about that

Your ex would have to transfer ownership before it could be activated. That's $25 plus a meeting with your ex. :-)
A new Sim card could remedy your situation, depending on the model. Under $25 and no meeting with the ex. :-P

1. If the phone was deactivated you don't have to do much of anything (as long as your ex didn't report it lost or stolen). Just head into a Koodo shop and set up your new account.

2. If it's still activated and does not take a sim card you will need to follow Chris's suggestion.

3. If it's still activated but does take a sim card you could follow Steven's suggestion.

Note that the only way you can have your old number is option 2.
