In response to Denise Meade Chippett on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/permalink.php...

I was texting with my phone and it suddenly said "No Service" in an area where there has always been service. It's been like this for a hour and I restarted my phone but it didn't help. What can I do now?

Some things to check.

Did you somehow accidentally turn on Airplane / Flight Mode?

Check your network settings and make sure your phone is set to choose a network automatically -OR- if it is set that way, set it to manual and scan for Kooodo or Telus and choose that network. Let us know what phoe you have and we can give instructions on how to do this.

Is your bill paid?
Bill is paid automatically from bank account and I only got the bill today so it couldn't be overdue anyway.

It's a HTC one V.
Airplane mode is not on, I checked. I received a text, wrote a reply, then nothing.

okay well you never know.

For Airplane mode press and hold the powerbutton and a popup box will show you if airplane mode is on or not. If it's not there just drag the notifications down from the top to see if it's there.

For Network Selection:

So you'll want to go to:

Settings - Wireless and Networks - More - Mobile Networks - Network Selection
This is weird, I flicked on my wifi for a moment, turned it off again, and service was restored? Makes no sense to me.

The One V can be a tricky little thing. I've also read that cycling Airplane mode on and off can fix it. Glad you got it working!
Very relieved! Now that I'm here, how do I check for updates to the One V?

At this point, you don't. The HTC One V won't be receiving any further updates. Chances are, you're still under the Gingerbread OS.
It's Ice Cream Sandwich, I made sure of that before I bought it.

You can check for updates by Going to

Settings - Phone - About - Software Updates

I actually belive the last update brought the phone to Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0) (though I could be mistaken)

This is something you'll want to do over wifi and with a fully charged battery
