I keep having monthly 9.99 charges. Koodo staff can't tell me what it is for but they think a music app. I have deleted everything from my phone relating to music and I never agreed to charges anyway. can anyone help me?

Hard to help when no one here can access your account. As a tech agent, there is a way to find out the name of the company or at least the parent company. Koodo wouldn't be able to do much to stop it but with some digging, they might be able to point you in the right direction.

Sounds like a premium messaging subscription to me. Customer service should be able to tell you which one specifically. They should now also have a tool which will enable them to unsubscribe you, although such tools are not perfect and may not work for all services.

I am hoping someone else is having the same problem and might be able to give me some hints about what app or company it might be. I have phoned Koodo a few times about this, and have been getting the charges since the summer. They have not been able to provide me with the info although they have attempted some guesses. I would like them to unsubscribe me. When I have a break from work I will phone them again, I am just getting quite sick of phoning them every month.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Log into your Self Serve account. Then click on usage, then click on Text Messaging. Look at your previous billing cycle usage and look for the charge of $9.99. This should display either the name of the company or a short code. If it displays the short code, you can do a search online for which company has this number. You can then send them a text message with the word STOP. This should automatically cancel the monthly subscription cost.

If it is a content subscription the only way would to text stop to them. Or give them a call directly so they no longer continue to bill you 9.99 on your bill. As previously mentioned. sounds like a content subscription to me.

Its a 'Monthly Music Subscription'. I think it was from when I downloaded Songza... and barely used it, didn't agree to charges, and deleted it months ago.

What happened was you downloaded "3 free" songs and the 4th was the beginning of your contract (with whatever company did this to you) until you text STOP. its also done with games, the same way. It happened to me years ago, when price was $3.00 a month...lotl

For songs I go to GTunes and down load from there and to date, I've not been billed for anything.

I don't think this would be from Songza, as far as I can tell, it's a free service. (Confirmed, states 100% FREE on their website).

However, after a quick Google search, Rhapsody and Spotify both have monthly charges of $9.99, might have been one of those

If you don't agree with the charges you'd have to contact the people for your content subscription and request a refund. This is a 3rd party service that Koodo has no say over.

Youre right about Songza, I think maybe it was Rdio. I am going to contact them.

It baffles me that charges can be added to my bill like this without me signing for them or anything. Although I recognize that this is a third party and not Koodo billing me directly, I don't think Koodo is entirely complicit. At no point am I directly sent a bill from Rdio (or whoever it is). I just have a 9.99 charge from Koodo that does not even mention the name of another company. If 'Rdio' were sending me a bill to my house that I could pay in any way I wished, that would be a different situation to me.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I hope this helps.

That's how some of these companies work unfortunately. Instead of charging you directly, they bill the mobile company, who then passes the charges onto you. It's generally in the fine print that you do have to take the time to read, otherwise you end up in situations like these. Don't blame yourself though. It's very easy to fall into these things.

Lesson of it all is read the fine print of anything you agree to online whether it be from your phone or PC ;-) it will always say how the charges will be billed.

Yeah I know. I just think its ridiculous what they can do without my signature, or my credit card number, or without even just e-mailing me or mailing me a statement or anything. I just think it is really messed up is all, but I realize that this is the way the world works.

Yeah it's most likely Rdio, since they have the $10 a month subscription option and they do offer carrier billing instead of credit card billing. They're not a scam though like most of the "premium" services. Let us know if you find out for sure that it's them.
