When I got my Koodo phone there was a 50mb data plan included. At that time I had no need for data so they put a block on data. Now, I would like to use the google maps turn by turn directions. Is 50 mb enough to do what I want to do ?

Hmm 50mb is enough but not for every long, i would recommend taking a screenshot and viewing the picture for the directions.

Check out Mapfactor Navigator or HERE if you have decent storage on your phone. The maps are downloaded when you install the app (via wifi, of course!) Count on 2 GB of data for all of North America.

Now, when you are on the road, the only time you will need data is when you do a search for a location or address. Rest of the time you can turn-by-turn with data off, since the maps are already on board.

Bon voyage.

HERE lets you search while offline, but it's not as robust as with a data connection.

Two 30 minute trips took about 10MB of usuage. Of course with Data on, beware of data leakage from other apps unknowingly updating in the background.

No I don't think that would be enough either. It all depends on where your going and distance. How much of the map will be used as well as the use of the gps to point where u are on the map.

I know original post was by an iPhone user, but for those on Android following this thread, and concerned about data leakage:
