Hi there! I am going to France for 3 weeks and I was wondering, with my current plan (unlimited call and text + 1GO of data) + 30BUNDLE, I'll be able able to send 50 texts, call during 50 min and use 50 MB of data for free, without having to pay 60 cents per text... , right? Also, after the 30 days period, am I guaranteed the 30BUNDLE will be cancelled from my account automatically? I don't want to pay an additional month while I will not need to. I would like to get the insight from people who have used the 30BUNDLE and see if they were satisfied. Thank you in advance for your help!!!!

Hi there! That's right it will not auto-renew. You will not have to pay for the 50 texts correct and even afterwards you will not be charged fo incoming. If you need a lot more than that, I'd suggest picking up a prepaid Free Mobile Sim while in France.

Well, since you're paying for the bundle it's hardly "free", but yes, a long as you stay within the limits you stated there will be no additional charges over and above that. And yes, the bundle will expire automatically.

OK thanks guys! Last question, I saw that a customer had trouble activating the bundle, though she sent the text "30BUNDLE" at the 5242. Which confirmation message should I expect from Koodo and how long in advance would you recommend to activate the bundle to make sure it's working? Thanks in advance for the additional info ;)

No real advance time is needed to make sure it's working. Technically you don't know 100% until you end up using it but so lon as the free add-ons are checked off, there no reason for it not to work.

International roaming & troubleshooting step-by-step:

1. See if your phone is compatible with the locale you will be visiting. If it’s not, then don’t waste any more of your time:

http://willmyphonework.net/

Prepaid phones will not roam unless you get them unlocked and buy a local SIM, so the following applies only for post-paid customers.

Someone reported that you can set things up using the Koodo app entirely on-line without need for texting. [Thanks to Jon Symons]. Go to your self-serve app, Plans & Add-ons, Get More Add-ons. There's two roaming add-ons you will need to activate. They're both zero dollars. [Thanks to Goran].

2. Check your plan add-ons in self-serve. Enable international voice roaming and international data roaming then restart the phone. Some people have complained they can’t find one or the other add-ons by using the Koodo app on the phone itself. In that case, use your browser and connect to self-serve that way. Both are listed at $0 per month and are needed in order to make any kind of connection outside North America.

Bundle or pay per use as you wish. If you are texting to use a bundle, make sure to send the activating text while you are still in Canada. The bundle takes effect immediately (it’s no-charge till midnight that day), and then the clock starts. Expect a confirming text in return.

Apparently just doing the 00TEXT or 00BUNDLE to 5242 is not enough in some cases. Instructions are at

http://help.koodomobile.com/coverage-long-distance-and-travelling/travelling

If you have no service once you have arrived, switch to manual network selection in settings>Cellular Network Settings>Manual and do a scan. Try to connect to any networks that appear. If none appear then you're in an area where there's no network available. [Thanks to Chadwick].

To add to this, make sure your network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE (autoconnect). [Thanks to Dennis].

You also have the option of unlocking your phone and using a local SIM if that will be more advantageous. Some of the info is not completely up-to-date, but it’s a good start:

http://prepaid-data-sim-card.wikia.com/wiki/Prepaid_SIM_with_data

[Thanks to Robert].

3. Download Fongo. They give you a real Canadian phone # and you can call anywhere in Canada for free, regardless of where you are - providing that you have a wifi connection. You can then use this to call customer service at 1 (866) 995-6636. If you arrive overseas and have no service, this may be the only way to speak to someone at Koodo. [Thanks to Ivan].

Btw when I see your message, I start to wonder if people are satisfied when using the bundle in France or if they usually have lots of trouble... Does anyone has a feedback to give me? Based on experience with Koodo in France, of course ;) Thanks!

Where did you get the iPhone from? I'm surprised it's not listed in willmyphonework.net . If you got it from a Canadian carrier or the apple store in Canada it will work with major Carriers in Europe Np.

The message is a generic one for any roaming not just France. With I presume over a million subscribers, even 0.1% of problems adds up to thousands of issues.

Besides using willmyphonework.net, if you go to: http://help.koodomobile.com/coverage-long-distance-and-travelling/travelling
then you can select the country that you will be in and it will list all the networks available and whether or not you will have service broken down into: calls; text messages; pic/vid messages; and data. Basically if you got a phone from Koodo, it is a good guide to tell you the exact networks you can use in which country.

Keep in mind that people are far more likely to post problems than kudos (sorry about the bad pun) with their service on boards like these. Your local mechanic is a good sounding board about the cars he sees with problems, but not the ones that never need his attention.

Read the customer questions. You should be satisfied with your particular iPhone's roaming capabilities:
