After 2 weeks with my Optimus Black I can't say I was all that enthralled, the upgrade from the Optimus One was a huge one, but noticed system slowdowns, funky memory issues and shorter battery life had started to gnaw on my general like for the phone.

Got the Galaxy S II X a couple weeks ago now, unlike 2 weeks after getting the Optimus Black, I am still very glad with the decision to go with it. I was kinda unsure about ditching my optimus black after only having it for a few months, but it blows the black out of the water in every aspect. Battery life, power, smoothness, horsepower, ICS, etc... Selling a few electronic gadgets I had lying around and the Optimus Black helped recoup costs :)

Again thank you for bringing this phone to your lineup! Most fun i've had with a smartphone!

Let's be fair now. The Optimus Black is still a good phone for the price. Yes, the Galaxy S II X is a more powerful machine for the money you pay for and honestly one of the best deals around on any carrier right now. A $600 smartphone for half price, no contract, Canada-wide calling? Yes please! I would sure as heck get that instead for my preferences, but the Optimus Black still has a great display (vivid colors and especially because it shows true blacks with the NOVA display, hence the name), a decent camera, and a good-size screen with a decent processor. It's not high-end but it's not trying to be. Some of my clients don't like the huge screen of the Galaxy SII X but want a smartphone with a decent screen that's going to do the job, and the Optimus Black is my answer to them.

I was under the assumption that AMOLED and NOVA worked in a similar fashion, in that the pixel showing black recieved no power, yielding infinite contrast ratios for both devices and a true black.

The only real difference I was aware between was the NOVA uses an LCD technology which has a backlit screen separate from the actual glass while the AMOLED has an OLED screen fused directly to the glass.

More or less pepsi/coke no? Can't say the screen was offensive on the LG, nor the physical dimensions. I just wasn't a fan of the under the hood components.

AMOLED is still overall better in terms of sharpness and brightness, but the NOVA shows blacks the best because of the way you described. I've sold a few and every time I activate it and turn it on, the colors just pop out at me for some reason. Obviously it's no HTC One S/X or Galaxy S3 but again, it's not trying to be. I don't blame you for getting the Galaxy S II X, it's definitely better! It's just that LG's a bit underrated and it's a good mid range phone. Again, some of my clients don't want to have the biggest or greatest (or expensive). I think the L5 on Virgin surpasses it now but it still has a place on Koodo. :)
