Since the new plans came out on April 19th, it looks like there is no more BYOD discount (on the new plans at least). I was just wondering if 10% discount is still available for the old plans (once I pay off the tab balance), or completely removed from the system. I am getting mixed answers, and search results are outdated. Any help would be much appreciated.

When I bought my Galaxy S3 from Koodo, I was assured that I would get a 10% discount when my tab was paid off. Now it's no longer available? That's a ripoff! This is just a way of getting rid of better plans that were previously offered as promotions. I suppose that we can't accumulate a positive tab any more with an old plan, after the tab is paid off. Now we pay full price for the phones rather than Koodo rewarding loyalty. I have been a customer since 2008 and I don't appreciate being treated like a new customer.

Thanks for the reply. I am not very happy about this. I am not sure about staying with Koodo.

I paid off my tab and was able to get them to add the 10% discount back to my plan. They can do it, they just don't like to and it probably has to go up the food chain. The person I talked to said that she had to talk to 3 people in order to get it done. Some rep's may not be as willing to help.

Hello Kenneth, I tried more than a week ago to get the 10% discount added back onto my plan. I was told it was not possible because the system would not allow the techs to do so... I suppose I should try again if it worked for you. You called them after April the 19th?

Sorry for the delay in replying but yes, it was after the 19th when I called. I think it was about April 23rd when I made the call.

I was told today at The Mobile Shop in Nanaimo that once your old tab (before April 19) is paid off you will get the BYOD 10% discount.

Steve, the Mobile Shop is wrong.

Well if The Mobile Shop is wrong then Koodo does not value their longtime customers.

According to Koodo, the 10% BYOD is now built into the plans. Device subsidies have changed and we now pay full price for our phones (even if koodo finances it). So the new plans have the discount and it's no longer available for the old tab plans.

The previous Tab rule that 10% of the bill accumulated as a positive Tab balance once the Tab balance reached zero, will no longer apply. Without my consent Koodo is changing my old tab to the new tab rules. The new Tab doesn’t allow for a positive Tab balance. This below is copied from the last page of previous last bill. They buried it on page 8.

On June 1, 2015, we’re dropping your outstanding Tab balance to $0. At this time you’ll be able to choose from our new line-up of plans launching April 19,2015 and can upgrade to a new Samsung for $0. On June 1, 2015, your monthly rate plan will change to new Tab rules. The new Tab doesn’t allow for a positive Tab balance. The previous Tab rule that 10% of your bill accumulated as a positive Tab balance once your Tab balance reached zero, will no longer apply. If you do not agree with this change, you will beable to cancel your service without penalty within 30 days of the change. Otherwise, your service will continue as amended, with all other terms remaining unchanged.

Koodo is informing you of the change which they are required to do. You have the right to not accept the change by cancelling your service. Otherwise the change is in effect and you're agreeing to it.

You must be on a plan acquired between June and December 2012 or thereabouts. The CRTC required all such 3 year contracts be curtailed in June of 2015, and any outstanding balance for phone annulled. As of June 2013, carriers were no longer able to offer longer than 2 year contracts. Seems like your contract is up, or nearly so, and Koodo is meeting the requirements of the contract as amended by the CRTC. There is no requirement for either party to extend a contract, which sounds like the situation you are currently facing.
