So I just upgraded online to a new phone with some old tab credit but also see the $50 offer on the website ("Online Only! Upgrade on the Tab to any phone by June 25, 2016 and get a $50 bill credit!"). However I didn't see a mention of this awarded credit after making my upgrade/purchase of the new phone...When talking about an "upgrade" here, are they referring to upgrading/changing my monthly plan? Where and when exactly am I going to see this $50 bill credit?

I'm not sure exactly what credit you were shown but generally it takes 30-90 days if services for stuff like that to appear.

If you go to "Shop" and then "Phones" on Koodo's website you'll see the message. https://www.koodomobile.com/phones?INTCMP=KMNew_NavMenu_Shop_Phones (see here?). Of course that message doesn't link us to anything, to help explain further...

Hi Jessie! For this specific promotion you received, the $50 bill credit will be processed after the 15 day period and then appear on your next bill. Hope that clears that up :)

I saw the promotion yesterday... but I could not find the banner any more... The offer has expired already?

Interesting that the Tab was immediately billed against me, but my credit for that same action will take 15 days to process and credit to me.  Not nice and probably causes more bad feelings than whatever interest is gained on being slow to give this credit.  There should have been at least an automatic recognition that this credit was on its way to me.

I believe that it's easier this way in terms of paperwork/hassle as 15 days is past the return phone for any reason date of 14 days. If you were to return your phone for whatever reason, you would then have to go pay back the 50 dollar credit. This is very common for all carriers to spread out promo credits to prevent abuse or make returns/cancellations easier.
