I recently just got with the $35 medium tab & my data rate is 50mb which is unfortunate but besides that, on the self serve Koodo app, it says "6 days left until billing cycle" does that mean I can use my data & plan as I please unlimited, & in 6 days I must follow my plan or else I will be charged ?

No, you are being charged right now for a part month up until your next billing cycle which will be your first FULL billing cycle. You will receive your first bill at the end of this billing cycle (so in 6 days) which will be for the part month you've had the phone and one full month you pay in advance, this is called proration and is how first bills work with every single carrier in Canada. So don't be worried when it's a little more than you might have expected it's normal and your next bill will be in line with that your probably expecting.

There is some lag with self serve for your data usage to show up. Look for he "last updated" time.

If you just got your phone, you are probably eligible for the unpublished 10-day data trial to test out your consumption. It's not "free" but it's understood that you won't be charged overages in that period for "normal" consumption. Designed to let you calibrate your needs.

Following idea can save you some grief as well. I got more than 1.2 gig of map updates today, fortunately by WiFi:

I've never heard of that... What I think is that the first billing period, your data consumption doesn't show since it's prorated...

I have no personal experience. Just picked it up from the forum. Seems like an intelligent idea to keep possible damages to a minimum.

In any event, anyone would be best off checking all their usage after 10 days in self-serve to get a feel for how they are doing and avoid surprises.
