We have unlimited talk and text plan with no data. Added on the $2 data block with picture messaging, so we could receive pictures via text. It's not working, no pictures unless you have the data turned on. Galaxy S5, is there other setting changes we need to make in the phone itself?

You have to turn data on. The block prevents any other form of data other than MMS data being used by your phone.

Will this add on block all forms of data such as third party apps like Facebook?

Yes, see Bernard's response below - you won't be able to access anything else.

Marty, dfbutt got it right!  Data on your phone still has to be turned on. You won't be able to access anything else but your picture messaging will work.

Thanks dfbutt and Bernard for the quick replies.
So, my daughter had a samsung and now has an iphone which uses data up like crazy. She has her data (1GB with our plan) off most of the time but cannot receive pictures via text unless she turns it back on - which is a pain turning off and on to control her data usage. If i add the Data Block to her plan, will she still be able to access apps and internet as long as she is connected to wifi? Just trying to figure out if this add on is a benefit or not to help her control her data usage. Thanks!

Hi Heather,
Yes, if you have the data block on, you still can access data through wifi. The data block duty is to block data from Koodo but allowing MMS passing through.

However, as you mentioned, your daughter plan has 1GB of data. If you put the block on, you won't be able to access that 1GB of mobile data.

Hi Heather,

There is an option to prevent your daughter from adding additional data once she hits her limit. I can’t seem to find this in self-serve but you can call in or visit a Koodo shop to add this in. The only disadvantage is that your daughter wont get sms if she hits 50%, 90%, 95% of her data.

She can also go to settings in her phone, and determine which apps can access cellular data, go to Facebook and turn off auto play video ( a big data consumer), make sure Wi-Fi assist is turned off, in addition to being more judicious with her data use generally.
