Please think about adding a $5 text plan to your offerings to your pay go plans. I don't use my phone too much but when I was with telus I has a $5 base with and extra money I had on there I used for minutes. it was awesome. Now I just got a prepaid koodo moto g. $15 base plan, just for texting is a bit much. especially when there are so many free apps out there. You are basically a part of telus, this should be offered.

Actually Koodo has the cheapest unlimited texting plan in Canada, at $13.50 (if you use auto topup).

I don't text much and I use it because of the $0.05/minute CANADA WIDE rate.

In comparison: Telus charges $0.15 per LOCAL minute and $0.65 LD even with their $5 add-on.

Sadly, you can't have your cake and eat it too :(

That's is good. But I just don't like paying to things I don't use. Telus 250 text for $5 is perfect for me. My cell calls are only used for the kids school to contact me when I'm out., as i have a home phone. So putting on a $10 card was perfect for me. I'll just unlock it for $5/ and go back to telus. The company as a whole telus/koodo is getting my money either way. Lol

Choices are good! If I never called LD and only sent 250 texts a month, I'd go back to Telus too. You may not even need to unlock your phone, just insert the Telus SIM and see if it works - chances are it will!

Does Telus still offer that? Are you saying that one can get a prepaid phone with Telus and a total monthly cost of just $5 For unlimited texting?

It's 250 texts, not unlimited. Unlimited incoming though! It's certainly a good choice for some light users :)

Not unlimited. $5 for 250, $10 for 2500 or the unlimited for $15.works for me as I also use Facebook messenger for when I'm on WiFi, which is most of the time.

LairdC: As mentioned not unlimited texts; and not as low as $5, either. Telus prepaid would require a monthly top up of $10 ($5 of which is consumed by the texting plan) leaving $5 for minutes at $0.15 each. If the phone is used as little as TaraF indicates, you could purchase a $100 top-up good for 12 months, dropping your monthly cost to about $8.34 plus tax (plus the acquisition cost of the phone).

Dang, that's some corner cutting right there. I admire your frugality, though. It would sure save me a lot of money per month.

That's what happened to me in early 2013. I was on the Super 6GB plan, and one day, I looked at PDFs of my bills and was surprised to see my usage over a couple of months.

I hardly used minutes, texted some and ended up using around 100-150 MBs per month. All that while I was on the 6GB plan.

I went all the way down from that plan straight to prepaid. Cut my costs 4X and never looked back. Taxes on the 6GB plan alone were 2/3rds the cost of my prepaid plan.

I was a HUGE fan of the 6GB plan. My real usage, however, said otherwise.

I have often wondered how many are in similar circumstances, David! My use runs less than 1 GB most months, and I could drop that further if I wished, however there are times when my usage climbs to about 1GB / week. I'd live to be able to buy a (big) bucket of data in the few busy months, and have a smaller plan otherwise.

I've been prepaid since May 27th, 2013. And I have just finished my 1st GB about a month ago. That's 1GB in over 18 months!!! I use about 60-80MBs/month nowadays, my commute is only 6km and I have wifi at home and at work, so I use data during all of 12km for the daily roundtrip commute (when I say "use data", I mean background updates, I'm not using the thing while driving, lol). That is likely what allows me to use so few MBs.

But hey, works for me, and I save a bunch!
