will the ios7 update ruin my iPhone 4? is it safe to do the update?

Hi guys 🙂 title basically says it all. I was wondering if the update would make my phone sluggish or wreck it in anyway. Is the iPhone 4 supported for this ios7 update? thanks !

From what I have heard updating to the new iOS 7 on your iPhone 4 will work, but having the new operating system drains your battery faster and may occasionally freeze. I probably wouldn't bother with this update. No matter what you do though you can always find an older version of iOS software online to restore your phone to. Good luck with whatever you decide. You cannot roll back your iOS once Apple stops signing it. The iPhone 4 can roll back it's iOS only if it has been jailbroken AND it's SHSH blob's has been saved. A SHSH Blob is: Apple's digital signature for that version of the iOS. You cannot use someone else's SHSH blobs as it is unique to each individual iPhone
Thanks Jeff. I may hold off and see what happens when they do another update in a few weeks
No problem.

Hello there, Having the latest iPhone update is always the best since the user experience is the best. My suggestion is to wait for others to test it before you and then choose. It's not dangerous to upgrade. If Apple said you could upgrade, then the phone is capable of dealing with this new FW

Good point about letting others test it before you commit your phone to the new iOS.

The phone will handle it, but it WILL be sluggish, it WILL drain the battery faster and most of the new features this update introduces WILL NOT work.

No air drop No live camera filters No siri updates No swipe and panoramic photo Data usage tracker must be manually reset every month, no built in data limiting, dataman is still better. the only new feature worth updating for is the call and message blocking, but it's hardly worth the trade offs.
Some of the new features will work on your 4. It should not be sluggish but it will probably drain your battery fast.

Ars Technica has a fairly detailed report on using the iPhone 4 with iOS 7, including battery measurements: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2013/09/new-lease-on-life-or-death-sentence-ios-7-on-the-iphone-4/
Thanks for all the input guys! I'm not gonna upgrade. It's not worth it. Sometime soon ill be getting the newer iPhone anyways
I'd carefully consider it. Unless there is something specific you need iOS 7 for I'd wait. I upgraded my iPad 2 to iOS 7 and found some things appear to perform slower. I also find the UI not as good as 6. Overall I'm not that impressed.
I was using iOS 7 for the last 5 months, since these posts, but update 7.0.6 seems to have really messed it up. right now I'm downloading the firmware for 6.1.3 but don't know if I can install it. If you know a way please post it here.

http://www.macworld.com/article/2049091/unhappy-with-ios-7-downgrade-while-you-still-can.html It may not work if apple stopped signing for ios 6 but you can give it a try.
