Will an unlocked iphone 5s from the apple store work with Koodo?

Will an unlocked iphone 5s from the apple store work with Koodo? Since the apple website saids it uses GSM network, but koodo uses CDMA. If not, where could I buy one that will work with Koodo? I already bought a nano sim card since the Koodo store recommended me to buy an unlocked phone! Yet I just realised yesterday that the unlocked iphone 5s uses GSM network! The sim card would be useless if the phone is incompatible. 😞 I will be very upset if the store's recommendation causes me to waste $20 and then still buy a locked phone from Koodo.

Iphone 5S uses the HSPA network, which is what Koodo uses. Koodo does have the CDMA network, but most of their phones operate on the HSPA network(CDMA phones don't require a sim card where HSPA phones do).

You‘re advice is completely wrong. Thanks a lot, now I just bought an iphone 5s and it does not work in koodo's network! ah

I am using an unlocked iPhone 5 on Koodo, and the 5s has even more supported bands and frequencies. It will work.

There is no service when I put the SIM card in. I even double checked my imputing my IMEI into the Koodo website. It saids my phone is not comparable with the network!!

You have to sync your iPhone with iTunes in order for it to be programmed with Koodo's settings. It should work after that.

I did sync my phone with iTunes, but there was no pop out telling me to upgrade or program with Koodo. Is there a way to manually do that?

I'm pretty sure it won't work because I checked my IMEI on koodo's website and it saids my phone will not work

And I can tell you from personal experience that checker is not 100%. I have a Nexus S, which works on Koodo and that checker says that it won't work. The only way to know for sure is to try. So do the sync and see if it works after that.

The iPhone 5S that Apple sells works with Koodo because as Myke said, they do use HSPA. CDMA is only still used in areas where HSPA can't cover. What is not working about your phone?

That doesn't make sense! No carrier in Canada uses CDMA iPhones, only Verizon in the US does... so I don't know how you managed to get one of those. It is actually reading your SIM card, though, so it could be something else. Have you made sure Airplane mode is off and you have 3G enabled in the settings?

Yes, I spent an hour yesterday night trying all sorts of opening and closing data, enabling almost everything possible, and syncing my phone on iTunes. In the "about" section, my phone does show my carrier is Koodo, but there is no signal whatsoever. Also, there was no pop up on iTunes telling me to program to koodo's network. Is there a way to manually do it? Or is that not even the problem?

Hmmmm. This is going to sound stupid but did you activate/swap your SIM? Can you test it in another iphone 5/5C/5S from Telus/Koodo?

I knew it! Apple Canada wouldn't sell a non-compatible version of the phone in their own backyard. Glad you got it working. 🙂
