Wifi and Roaming in the US.

If you are in a wifi area (in the US) and want to text or surf, is that okay or a US roaming package is still recommended?  I plan to get a full roaming package, but I have 2 other travellers that might not need to purchase a package.  Thanks.

If you are purely using wifi (not data) and not sending texts from your Koodo number than you will not be charged any roaming charges. If they only plan to send a handful of texts they shouldnt bother with a roaming package. You can view the US add-ons here: https://www.koodomobile.com/add-ons You can view US roaming charges here: http://help.koodomobile.com/coverage-...

make sure your 2 other travelers keep their phone on airplane mode (they can still turn on wifi when needed).  Or best yet, remove the sim card for the duration of the trip so they wont accidentally incur roaming charges for texting or data use
Thank you both.  We have decided to go with full package for me and text packages for the other 2.  Can you please tell me the settings I need to put our phones on so we don't accidentally incur roaming charges (or charges over our packages).  You mentioned airplane mode - would we use that for all of our phones?  We are using 2 iPhone 5C and an iPhone 3GS (yes, it still works:-)  Don't want to remove the sim cards - scared something might happen to them. Thanks in advance for your expertise.

Make sure you have data off on all the phones and only turn it on when you want to use it. Other than that you should be fine.
Put airplane mode on only if you don't want to receive any texts or calls.

The 3Gs may need to connect to data to work properly; at least mine did when I set it up on prepaid many years ago.

Thanks for the info Allan - will do.   David, I will get the data to be safe as it is a prepaid phone.

Prepaid sometimes requires you choose the carrier manually once in the USA. Goto Settings > Carrier, switch off automatic, then choose from the list which populates (usually AT&T).
